Event Introduction and Description:
Department of Civil Affairs of Taipei City Government has jointly hosted the Taipei City Ghost Festival Pudu Ceremony with the Taiwan Provincial City God Temple since 2009. The Pudu ceremony follows the ancient system to carry out ritual procedures such as reporting to City God, respectfully invite Guyou, opening the list, food-serving rituals and appreciate to the City God. Praying for all the people of Taipei City through the traditional religious highly recommended Dharma ceremony.
Taiwan Provincial City God Temple has been encouraging eco-friendly rituals for many years by promoting the centralized burning of joss paper and replacement of joss paper with rice, making it a benchmark temple for promoting eco-friendly rituals in Taipei City. In recent years, in the Pudu praying ceremony, in addition to promoting the etiquette culture reform through eco-friendly and solemn worship ceremonies, also advocated to reduce the consumption of incense and joss paper, centralized burning of joss paper also replacing joss paper with rice, showing the fusion of the joss paper replacement with rice and traditional rituals, encouraging people to worship and return to sincerity and reducing joss paper burning. In addition, the list of participants who joined the online Pudu ceremony will be presented to the City God, the Master will pray for for the people who participate in the online Pudu ceremony. Folklore Council of each district also responded to the replacement of joss paper burning rituals with donation, convert joss money and offerings into charity, donate to help vulnerable groups in need, pray for blessings while protecting environmental, love for the earth and helping vulnerable people at the same time.
Taiwan Provincial City God Temple has made a lot of efforts to prepare for the Pudu Ceremony every year. On the offerings table, there are not only the skillfully crafted sacrificial animals and various Buddhist Dharma decorations, which imply the connotations of praying for blessings and safety and the relief of calamities, also use ingenuity to design stacks of peace rice into images such as Bagua, Dharma Wheel, and Swastikas. In recent years, the Pudu site has even installed a large peace rice treasure boat and exquisite ice and fruit sculptures that combine tradition and cultural creativity. With a pious heart, praying for favorable weather and peace for Taipei City, and to attract lots of attention from the believers who participate the Ceremony.
